Idol beauty vs. Actress beauty

Article: Kim Tae Hee's 'barley hair' gives her a 'girl group aura' that makes her look 10 years younger

Source: TV Daily via Nate

1. [+411, -39] How dare you compare her to some girl group. More like that girl group looking 'barley hair' is receiving the 'aura of Kim Tae Hee'.

2. [+354, -44] I remember a plastic surgeon said on TV once that Kim Tae Hee's head size/facial features is of the smallest possible human ratio. Kim Tae Hee has pretty features but I think her small head has a lot to do with helping her beauty stand out. I know it's stupid obsessing over head size but I can't help but be jealous. ㅠㅠ

3. [+397, -229] Plastic Generation, are you reading this?

4. [+42, -2] Kim Tae Hee with a girl group aura? Sounds so off ㅋㅋ If a girl group was described as having Kim Tae Hee aura, imagine the hate they'd get ㅋ

5. [+13, -5] How dare you put her name next to any girl group...? Totally on a different level from plastic surgery monsters

6. [+11, -3] I think people are thinking Kim Tae Hee's level has dropped since she's co-starring with an idol in her drama.. Who would've ever dared to compare her to some idol before.

[MDPhoto] Suzy's beauty 'she even stands a chance against Son Ye Jin'

Source:
Mydaily via Naver

1. [+54, -4] Son Ye Jin by far ㅋㅋㅋ Definitely the aura of an actress

2. [+60, -12] Son Ye Jin was way prettier than Suzy when she was her age

3. [+54, -9] It's a losing battle before you even get to their faces ㅋㅋㅋ Just look at the difference in their body proportions. Suzy's like some log.

4. [+48, -4] I'm not Suzy's anti but if people saw what Son Ye Jin looked like at Suzy's age, they'd never even think of putting their names together like this... Son Ye Jin's the bomb.

5. [+48, -7] How can you even compare an actress to some singer?

6. [+46, -8] Even with a 10 year age gap, Son Ye Jin owns ㅡㅡ

7. [+30, -1] Son Ye Jin was on Kim Tae Hee's level when she was Suzy's age

  2. Dead @ Suzy looking like a log

    ReplyDelete
  3. The actresses in these pictures are not even all that pretty. And Kim Tae Hee is only pretty to me sometimes, other times she is plain.

    ReplyDelete
  4. LOL I can't. This is so ridiculous! Idol or actress, at the end of the day they're all woman, they all wear makeup and they all received cosmetic treatments.
Other than their jobs, they're the same!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. 3. [+397, -229] Plastic Generation, are you reading this?

    LOOOOOL SNSD

    ReplyDelete
  6. Truthfully Korean actresses tend to be prettier than female idols. They usually look more refined but KTH isn't a good example of that she's one of the uglier ones lol

    ReplyDelete
  7. alright now this is just getting straight up annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yea but other countries are like that. People respect angelina jolie way more than miley cyrus selena rihanna

    ReplyDelete
  9. It isn't as if every idol is a plastic surgery monster or every actress is totally natural.

    ReplyDelete
  10. articles that seems to have the intention to provoke idol-hating netizen to come flooding in with comments? lol. not saying either idol or actress is prettier though since generalizing is just stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  11. well i think we should just understand why east asian countries like south korea are so obsessed with beauty. EVERYONE LOOKS THE SAME. whether you want to admit it or not, thumb me down, call me racist i don't care..
but this is the reason why they are obsessed with beauty, and with people looking a certain way.. the avg person there is not exposed to different types of facial features, different ethnicity and races.

    ReplyDelete
  12. But most of actress get away from it rght? Life is so unfair

    ReplyDelete
  13. i don't even care for idols as much or anything but they are being really harsh.
do you know whats the main cause of death in south korea for people under the age of 40? suicide. thats all i am going to say.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It's always actresses > idols. It's unfair for the idols.

    ReplyDelete
  15. rihanna is not a teen idol.. so you can take her out of that.. koreans respect real musicians, artists.. not teen manufactured idols. i dont think anyone likes that.. except for teens. of course.

    ReplyDelete
  16. well you aren't korean.. so you would not understand.

    ReplyDelete
  17. well i watched almost all son ye jin movies and they're not lying when they said she was the bomb even before

    ReplyDelete
  18. No one likes manufactured pop acts tbh.. unless you are britney spears or something

    ReplyDelete
  19. Netizens (or most probably just the orcs) hating on idols, no matter what the context is, is ridiculous. It's not like actresses are all natural beauties. Most of them get plastic surgery, just like idols. Everyone is the same, except for a select few who really are natural beauties. I don't get their mentality.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 3. [+397, -229] Plastic Generation, are you reading this?
    As if in.............SNSD? Oucchhh.

Son Ye Jin is gorgeous, and that photo doesn't do her justice.

    ReplyDelete
  21. She looks amazing in A Moment to Remember.

    ReplyDelete
  22. umm these actors.. had to work their way up into the entertainment industry.. they did not audition for some company, train for 6+ yrs etc

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yeah sucking lots of dicks to get roles.

      Delete
  23. oh the thumb downs.. i love it... pressed idol stans.. its not even like you stan real musicians, you stan manufactured pop acts.. lol

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's not true though, South Korea aims for uniformity, different is 'bad'. If you walk around in Seoul you'd see the average Korean don't look alike, but here it's either you fit the beauty ideal or you don't, there's no middle ground, which is where plastic surgery comes in. Naturally Koreans have rather large faces/heads, hence the obsession with small heads etc. we aren't obsessed with beauty because we look the same. Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  25. That photo of Son Ye Jin is terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  26. yeah its because naturally koreans have large heads.. i think japanese are obssesed with small face too. but not as much as korean

    ReplyDelete
  27. you are not an idol. so calm down. i dont see why it bothers you so much

    ReplyDelete
  28. that movie made me cry

    ReplyDelete
  29. I've recently watched it (for the 6th time) and it still made me cry.

  30. ifyoureadthishaveanicedayFebruary 1, 2013 at 8:39 PM

I try to respect Knetz opinions seeing as it's a different culture than mine and they're not representative of the whole Korean population, however I can't stand cases like this, where they're not judging from talent or skill. It's not like actors were born from holy holes... I understand why they take them into such big consideration comparing to idols (which is kind of unfair if you think about it, they worked hark too but the problem is that they often don't have the skills to back it up but have a company to save them from that problem), but it's absolutely ridiculous to say an idol can't be prettier than an actress (and that actresses don't get work done just like idols).

    ReplyDelete
  31. OMG I hate those stupid netizens who criticize idols in order to praise the actresses.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Suzy is 12 years younger than Son Ye Jin. No one can turn back the time. So stop comparing current Suzy with past Son Ye Jin.
To me, Suzy is beautiful inside and out.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I really don't get the whole "small head" thing. Kim Tae Hee's head looks about normal size to me? hahaha. IMO it's not her head size that makes her pretty. It's her big eyes- small nose-big lips ratio. She looks like a disney princess. Really pretty in a conventional way.

    ReplyDelete
  33. only if ur an snsd fan tbh. otherwise it's p. funny.

    ReplyDelete
  34. one of my all-time favorite :) have you also seen the classic?

    ReplyDelete
  35. the heck. kim tae hee don't look that special to me. i can tell she is older. clearly i don't get koreans' beauty standards.

    ReplyDelete
  36. lol you dont become an actor just because you feel like it. they too go to acting school which is basically training...

    ReplyDelete
  37. What I dont get is in korea people like small heads and white skin but here people like getting tanned and they need to get over the Actress/actor>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Idols

    ReplyDelete
  38. lol at this. saying that actresses/actors > idol . i think they are both the same human beings that breath the same air that surrounds the atmosphere. but i can't deny how idols actually bring more recognition to korea than actresses/actors. dislike if you disagree :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. is kim tae hee really dating rain?

    ReplyDelete
  40. bottom line whatever Idol do whether good or bad..knetizen :criticize ..but whatever actor/actress does knetizen: praises, fantastic..

    ReplyDelete
  41. Park Minyoung gets a ton of shit for it tho.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's widely known the training process for becoming an idol requires a huge amount of sacrifice and work...
I think actors are more respected because:
1: They (supposedly) have the talent required for their job.
2: They are more "on their own" than idols in terms of having a company backing them up.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think actress and idols look beautiful with each of their own aspects. I

don't think "A" is more beautiful or better than "B" plainly because the fact that "A" is an actress and "B" is an idol. That's an odd way to judge beauty solely based on their career.

    ReplyDelete
  44. "Suzy's like some log."

Crazy. She has a great body and is beautiful. They are ridiculous sometimes. Beauty is beauty regardless of their career choice.

    ReplyDelete
  45. and training for 6+ years isn't working your way up??

    ReplyDelete
  46. ugh kpop fans just do not understand seriously. currently in korea, idol music over saturates the music industry. there is no creativity or originality going around, everything pop music. thats it. only like 1 or 2 actual music acts might chart, but everything is idol music. all of the idols in korea are manufactured. they go through some strict training process debut, and if they have a good company backing them they can survive, if not might fail. everything is the same. idols on tv shows, idols in the music, idols in the media blah blah THEYRE everywhere..

    ReplyDelete
  47. what did you think girl group meant?

    ReplyDelete
  48. But what does that have to do with beauty?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Considering that they get plastic surgery to have the exact same V-chin (that imo looks hella weird to me now), the exact same high nose bridge, the exact same double eyelid+baby fat under eye combo.... I wouldn't say facial differences are very celebrated over there. Actually they are mocked and you are pressured by society to confirm to the very narrow beauty ideals.

    ReplyDelete
  50. ofc it means any girl group but sones take the most offense to it which imo just adds to the humour

    ReplyDelete
  51. if they were talking about park bom would it sill be funny to you?

    http://www.plastic-surgery-implants.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Park-Bom-Botox-injection-277x300.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  52. ofc now you think I'm a 2NE1 fan kekeke

    ReplyDelete
  53. That is correct but how does it relate to BEAUTY??

    ReplyDelete
  54. hmm I find this idol vs actress beauty thing interesting. it sort of makes me wonder if yoona is considered the "beauty" of snsd mainly because she's also an actress.. because I've always found her face extremely plain.

    ReplyDelete
  55. i get what you mean but i was just saying actors go to acting school too, which was the whole point of my reply. obviously they wont be as famous as idols whos company arranges for them to be on tv. But actors do put in as much hard work but yes they are being overshadowed by idols.

    ReplyDelete
  56. They just sound delusional. It's not like actresses don't get plastic surgery either.

    ReplyDelete
  57. yeah but no one is arguing that idols are all talented, just like all actresses (particularly kth) are not exactly talented either

    ReplyDelete
  58. K-Netizens would say Yoona is incomparable to actresses. They consider her an idol, not an actress.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think Son Ye Jin was prettier before her nose job, but she'a still beautiful!

With these tons of idols debuting with poor songs, would be normal they be bashed, even because we already see how strict k-netizens are.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm not comparing her to actresses. I'm talking about the raves she gets for her beauty in comparison to other idols. my point was that I think she's considered one of the prettiest idols because she's also an actress.

    ReplyDelete
  61. it has nothing to do with talent. actresses just seem more glamorous in the eyes of Koreans. there's nothing complex about it. I don't agree with their opinion, but hey, it's the way they think. nothing we can do about it.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ? what makes you think that person's a blackjack?

Presumptuous much? I'm a blackjack, and I adore SNSD.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I HAVE! Saddest movie everrrr. Fell in love with Jo In Sung in there. A Moment to Remember was one of the sweetest films <333

    ReplyDelete
  64. people in the public eye are pressured to have a face that's attractive, period. no need to act like this actress has probably never had surgery before. and there's very few idols who've had surgery and look strange after... and if they didn't, you'd be calling them "monsters" for other reasons... so rude

    ReplyDelete
  65. It's quite disturbing on how Knetizens think, tbh. They complain that all idols look a like or are plastic, and when there's an idol that doesn't meet up to their standards they tell that idol to get plastic surgery or tell them to fix their faces or even go as far a photoshopping idol faces and uploading them on popular community sites showing if so and so got this done, they would be so much more pleasant to look at.

It's just disturbing that they don't know that they are the main reason why there are so many plastic surgeries in the entertainment industry, let alone the idol world.

    ReplyDelete
  66. its understandable why anyone above the age of 25 would hate idols and all their manufactured-ness. yet netizens with all their pride in the hallyu ripple (it is NOT a wave) are alarmingly ignorant of who dragged their little, seemingly insignificant country out of china and japan's huge cultural shadows. i hate to be the one to break it to people but 'artists' like lena park, boohwal and 'talented' solo vocalists (iu and ailee) will not receive substantial fame abroad, why? there is nothing fundamentally special about them that differs them from what other singers from other nations can produce. it is idols, in all their plasticity who attract attention for their performances and for possessing an ability to entertain that is largely unique (a phenomena which often transcends linguistic barriers). as for idols vs actors, i have gone about this enough times previously, yet i am quite damn sure that it is not culturally insensitive of me to bash the ignorant bozos for their ridiculously foolish belief that actors are undeniably prettier than idols (and all without surgical enhancements may i add)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Funny I didn't mention my race how would you know I am not Korean?

    ReplyDelete
  68. That movie never fails to make me cry, no matter how times I've seen it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. some of you need to stop blindly following knetizen's opinions, just looking at it purely on looks I would put quite a few idols above kim tae hee. even a few I dont like or care about

    ReplyDelete
  70. 5. [+13, -5] How dare you put her name next to any girl group...? Totally on a different level from plastic surgery monsters

    yet you still love them...

    ReplyDelete
  71. The way they worship Actors/Actresses and blame EVERYTHING to idols sometimes creep me out o_o

    ReplyDelete
  72. idk could be because she has a conscience and genuinely feels bad for those who get bullied for no reason?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Idk, but "plastic generation" sounds an awful lot like GIRL'S GENERATION to me.

    /shrug

    ReplyDelete
  74. Then they shouldn't get plastic surgery. Duh?

    ReplyDelete
  75. There aren't a lot of actresses that get it to begin with. The ones that do aren't very popular anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  76. ssshhh...k netz...calm your hearts...I don't want to think people in Korea are unhappy people...with all these issues they have..oh well..
Son Ye Jin and Suzy are beautiful in their own ways.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Lol it's so weird seeing k-netizens just uplift actors/actresses over idols who are "plastic faced" when most actors/actresses get plastic surgery. I've seen girls on the streets (in the US) that look way better than Kim Tae Hee, but maybe that's just my opinion/cultural standards talking, so I guess it doesn't matter :/

    ReplyDelete
  78. They're pretty much right about Son Ye Jin being on Kim Tae Hee's level. This is her 5+ years ago:

    http://www.intobox.com/kstarzone/picture/son_ye_jin/son_ye_jin_01.jpg

She was really pretty. No idea why she got a nose job, but her popularity plummeted when she did even though she still looks pretty.

    http://d1i45kki000yqu.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/j/v/ad/484543/484543.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  79. It's a fact that Son Ye Jin is way prettier than Suzy.
    don't be butthurt.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It's not a fact, many people find Suzy prettier than Kim tae hee and other actresses.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I think Kim Tae Hee matches the Korean standard of beauty. I'm not really into her look either. she's pretty in this innocent way, but there's nothing striking about her appearance.

out of all the Korean actresses, I think Song Hye Kyo looks the most striking and it's not surprising that she gets far more attention for her beauty internationally than KTH.

    ReplyDelete
  82. 3. [+397, -229] Plastic Generation, are you reading this?

snsd fans tried and failed, netizens win!

    ReplyDelete
  83. just like any other *developed country, did you mean?

    ReplyDelete
  84. wonder how much plastic surgery or how beautiful those netizens who made the comments are naturally. zzz.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Not yet, I'll watch it later.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Tae Hee looks like she has a normal sized head though lol. But eh, Knetizens putting down females with words like "surgery monsters" etc. like actresses don't get it either. I'll never agree with the idea that depending on what you're occupation is, you somehow become more beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Why the heck are the calling out idols on plastic surgery? I've seen many dramas where the entire female cast had obvious surgery. No, I'm not exaggerating.

    ReplyDelete
  88. tbh suzy is the better looking one in that picture

    ReplyDelete
  89. And I'm saying that he being an "actress" has nothing to do with it, because K-Netizens consider her an idol, not an actress.

    ReplyDelete
  90. FFS I'm getting tired of these type of posts. I get it, Skorea has massive adoration for actors/actresses and their non-plastic faces. Which I find hypocritical, but whatever. These type of k-netizens can keep drinking the koolaid especially if they think that actresses/actors have not gone under the knife.

If an idol has a non-conventional look, they tell them to have PS like BOM, SM idols, etc.. Sheesh, look at Onew's new nose, it just makes me sad.

If an idol did PS, they get character assassinated by netizens' comments.

Honestly, idol-life sucks, just look at kpop idols lives, heck look at that akb48 member that had her head shaved. It's all disgusting. It's part of the reason why I don't belong to any fandom, I just simply listen to the music, watch some variety shows and leave. The idol-life doesn't seem worth it at all. I would honestly just become a troll idol and just stir shit all the time if i had the chance.

    /endrant

    ReplyDelete
  91. This kim tae hee....who dates rain during his military service?...all shegot just looks.
Her acting wasnt outstanding..and japanese hate her.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I don't understand the comparison of beauty between singers and actress. If she's beautiful but she's an idol so she is lesser beauty of sorts?.. Why the social stratifications of an idol should always be under an actresses by any level?.. Its a shame because idol work hard too to maintain their beauty and appearance. I don't understand Koreans obsession with beauty and the classifications. Its beyond normal and sometimes impossible. No wonder people in entertainment business there only last until their beauty and youth with them.

Sorry but Korean will never had Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey or Madonna. A music powerhouse with beauty and respect.

    ReplyDelete
  93. um i dont even care for suzy or the actress. so try again.
you should try not being butthurt

    ReplyDelete
  94. +54, -9] It's a losing battle before you even get to their faces ㅋㅋㅋ Just look at the difference in their body proportions. Suzy's like some log.

I never once felt suzy was even remotely fat.why do knetizen's keep calling her fat!! I guess in K-industry ppl r so used to watching skinny anoroxic gals, that even normal healthy girls look fat to them.

    ReplyDelete
  95. omg so true, since when did job become a factor to judge on beauty? lol they're fucking weird

    ReplyDelete
  96. LOOOL the actress is so ugly ....girl groups are way prettier than fugly Korean actresses .
PS : mostly actors/actresses get PS.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Shit that is scary.. I cringe every time i see a stan calling 2ne1 'gorgeous, beautiful, goddess, unnie so pretty'

    ReplyDelete
  98. yeah sorry i meant developed

    ReplyDelete
  99. I'm so baffled at how much they think low of idols. I understand the standards at first (I still kinda do now) however, it's getting pretty out of control. Idols getting hate when they want to try acting but actors/actresses get away from the hate when they want to try singing/dancing say whaaa? I try to understand the 'barriers' and such but this is just unfair. Sick.

    ReplyDelete
  100. "Suzy looks like a log". Are you blind, Knetz? >.<

    ReplyDelete
  101. true.
Jun Jihyun would kill all em idols with one hair flips!
    damn LOVE that woman.
    rly description of perfection.
all you idol worshipers need to watch the thieves before ya'll thumbs down my comment. tbh.
    bye~

    ReplyDelete
  102. "Plastic Generation, are you reading this?" that's 2009-ish

    ReplyDelete
  103. what a close minded ass. You just not used to seeing their features so you don't see the differences

    ReplyDelete
  104. yeah being mean is so funny ha-ha-ha

    ReplyDelete
  105. lol you're so full of shit. first of all, idol music is not dominating the music charts. just look at this week's billboard's kpop top 100. there are two idol groups in the top 10: snsd and cnblue. yes there are a lot of idol groups, but you're delusional if you really think ~real music~ isn't given proper attention in korea. and guess what? like every other industry, the entertainment business is all based on supply and demand. there's a reason why idols are everywhere. people are getting tired of it, but if it doesn't make profit, these companies and broadcast agencies wouldn't be sticky idols everywhere. no one's forcing to download idol music or watch a program with idols in it.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Idols will never win against actor and actress, never.

    ReplyDelete
  107. you mean suzy fans?

    ReplyDelete
  108. "ability to entertain"

lol 3 of the 50 idol groups that debut every month barely pass as "entertaining" . Most of them are overchreographed and wouldn't know how to put on a show themselves because they were trained for maybe 5 months max, not to mention they put out carbon copies of the last successful idol group venture. then what, they put out selcas and get an appearance on scripted variety shows. Yes, Korea should be proud that they're noticed because of this bullshit.

Let's say US was in the same position as Korea in some alternate universe, overshadowed by the UK and Europe or Canada and the Disney stars were the ones who brought attention to the states. I bet most of the people who thumbed up the post's comments would be crying about the real artists being ignored by the world. You people are just brainwashed by catchy hooks and faces that you don't understand what another nation of people would feel.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I think idol fans are voting this down, but SYJ does look way prettier than Suzy

    ReplyDelete
  110. bullshit. do you know what you are talking about? ignorant i-fans are bad but people that cant read or extract meaning from text/statements are worse. i dont care about how koreans feel, many korean people dont even care about how other koreans feel. i am not demanding they be proud of them, i am demanding that certain netizens grow a brain and understand that this little 'moment' that they have outside of japan and china's shadow is given to them by idols, whether they like them or not. another stupid thing is that crap actresses are lauded for their beauty (regardless of how they cant act) yet even talented idols are drawn through the mud. the point is that it is idols who are spreading their nations name across asia (with regards to culture), i dont care about talent, the fact is that many people who listen to kpop, dont either. lets say the u,.s was in the same position, you 'bet most of the people who thumbed up the post's comments would be crying about the real artists being ignored by the world', a baseless assumption. plus beggars cant be choosers, its like a baby finally getting attention yet deciding its not enough. their 'real' artists will not find fame abroad because is nothing distinguishable about them. idols, however good or bad they may be, sing and dance simultaneously, are often multi-lingual, are often public friendly and so on. what other asian country has this mix? china? not widespread. japan? japanese idols cant dance. malaysia, singapore, thailand? no. if i wanted a 'catchy hook' i could easily go else where.

"Suzy's like some log." lol I know that's mean but it's also funny XD
Btw I'm 100% sure that they talk about Kim Tae Hee /and other actresses, but NEVER IDOLS/ like that (like she's some kind of godess) only because she's famous... Also, that they feel superior for stanning actors and not idols. Idk why though... Quoting PurpleLama: "It's not like actresses don't get plastic surgery either."

    ReplyDelete
  112. lmao and there's something distinguishable about most groups? What? A lot of non idols can do the things you listed and a lot of the groups are clones from other groups who do the exact same thing. There was once a time when idols were special but that's pretty much ruined by poor companies pushing their rushed trainees in the public's faces.

Hey, it's unjust that bad actresses get praised but the double standard probably stems for the seemingly endless overestimation A lot of the idols save for a few beauties look like plain kids next to them. Maybe everyone has to deal with the fact that netizens don't see the oh so special traits the fans do and deal. Idols are still around to entertain everyone and they have a fanbase, but people don't have to care if chepp pop music brings in koreaphiles.

    ReplyDelete
  113. yea and by the way their goddness kim tae hee had PS too -_-"....if you see pic before and after...you will directly notice , they even did a article about it in allkpop ...

    ReplyDelete
  114. "A lot of non idols can do the things you listed", yeah but guess what? they dont. idols are not 'special' they recently nothing
more than manufactured clones of each other. but the things they do, who else does it? not, 'who can do it'? but who DOES it. no one. that is what makes them special, that is what makes them korea's unique selling point. we call them
derogatory things like 'manufactured' and 'fake' and 'plastic' and 'wannabes' but a hell of a lot of people either dont see it or dont care and these people are mainly 12-25 year olds living in SEA. it is not about actually being special, but about how one perceives it. perception and reality are different things
entirely yet people seem to assume their perception is reality. look at iraq and WoDs for an example.

the entire entertainment industry is the same, it is all
based on looks, there is no ‘oh, well your too pretty to be a singer, go and start acting instead’. “A lot of the idols save for a few beauties look like plain kids next to them”, yes and a lot of actresses save for a few beauties look plain next to some singers, what’s the point? Beauty is subjective and in korea there is no official dividing line between actresses and singers with regards to looks. I think you are misunderstanding me; normally i could not care less if a few k-nets start harassing idols, “but people don't have to care if cheep pop music brings in koreaphiles” yes but here is the problem, korea wants
koreaphiles, it wants them in the truckloads. You see, korea, as a nation, has quite a large inferiority complex that probably stems from multiple areas, such as: 1) all east Asians being classed as Chinese or japanese 2) north korea being more famous than the south 3) the lack of a ‘korean world star’. Rain was an asian star and psy could quickly turn out to be a O.H.W. 4) minor things such as kimchi often called kimichi by foreigners (thought to be Japanese) and the Korean war being largely forgotten in the west. To expand on point ‘3)’ why do
you think Korean media is a) labelling the hallyu wave as a global force (when it isn’t) and b) labelling its stars as ‘the Korean beyonce’ ‘the Korean kimuya takuya’ ‘the Korean justin timberlake’ ‘the Korean Jackie chan’. Idols are the
closest thing they have to world stars, they are, in a sense, giving the majority of the people what they want but because the people don’t like them, they ignore them. That is my point. My main complaint is the hypocrisy. If they don’t like them, fine. Just don’t absent-mindedly bash them.

  115. [+411, -39] How dare you compare her to some girl group. More like that girl group looking 'barley hair' is receiving the 'aura of Kim Tae Hee'.

I am done, omg netizen you made my day.

    Though they're quite ... delusional..

  117. In that photo, Suzy looks better. I'm not comparing other pictures, because I can't remember what Son Ye Jin used to look like. But here, Suzy looks better......

  118. gurl stop. there is nothing unique about kpop. it is essentially western pop performed by cute asians enjoyed by those who have yellow fever

  119. kim tae hee looks like sunhwa in those photos.

  120. this small head thing is so freaking stupid...Son Ye Jin in that picture doesn't look good at all

  121. This is not just a simple "actress > idols" case. They are comparing respected Top actress (Kim Tae Hee and Son Ye Jin) to idols, so those kind of hateful comments are expected.

I don't think the response will be the same if those idols will be compared to Lee Yeon Hee and Park Min Young.

  122. This articles is full of butthurt idol fans. I feel like I'm reading comments from AKP.

  123. Most top actress are all natural like Kim Tae Hee, Kim Ok Bin, Ku Hye Sun, Song Ji Hyo, Jun Ji Hyun, Lee Na Young and so on and they still way way prettier than girl groups.

  124. it isn't western pop. really, i never knew east asians had yellow fever?

  125. it's not like actress are all beautiful. some of them are ugly as fuck and some of idols are much more beautiful than them. and don't go around spreading bullshit that idols had plastic surgery because we all know for a fact that actresses does too. Knetizens are so hypocrite. Imo, Suzy is so much prettier than Son Yejin and I'm not even a fan of Suzy.

  126. Well....it's pretty much plastic vs plastic. Just depends on how much money you have and what surgeon you go to. Do your research first to find the best one.

  127. I think I actually love you.

  128. You know it's totally people's opinion. "Beauty" is a completely fluid and social construct... also whatever you're exposed to more, and are used to.

  129. HOLY SHIT THEY DO NOT ALL LOOK THE SAME

Even if you take just one east asian country, tons of people have different faces, different noses, different eye shapes, different lash lengths.

And nice to know you don't care if I call you racist, because you are. You are being so so racist right now.
